As curator for Deep Dope Soul I wanted Natalie Wood to be a part of our launch BECAUSE
BECAUSE her voice is so authentic
BECAUSE her voice would be missing from this celebration if it were not here (and there are other voices that are sorely missed)
BECAUSE I just have myself a good ole fashioned BALL when we speak
But the poem she shares here is uniquely HERS because I have never been Latina, or green eyed, or shunned for not looking brown enough.
But the poem is universal because we have all be shunned and not been Black enough, light enough, hair right, from neighborhoods to parties to the arms of those we love we have been "looking for a place to land."
There's more to this poem than that...but listen for yourself
